One of my favorite movies when I was a kid was This Boy’s Life. Based off the life of Tobais Wolfe, it dramatizes his adolescent struggles against his abusive father-in-law (along with a memorable scene where he stands up to his greaser “friends” in north Washington State). It ends with his escape from his hometown, and inevitably, self-actualization. In the end he becomes a writer.
